The ultimate experience.//
Monday, December 17, 2012 @ 8:19 AM It's funny how some things we believe will last forever, slip past our fingers in no time at all, as do things we sometimes take as temporary endeavors last beyond their expected time.
Ultimate frisbee has been one of those unexpected things that I've managed to keep in my life. I first started playing because the team that trained at the park near my school needed a girl for an upcoming tournament. I casually said yes, though I rarely attended any of the training sessions because I was busy with athletics at that point in time. I ended up going for that competition after probably 3 training sessions. I never expected to continue playing after that. Tbh, I think I stopped for awhile to prepare for mid terms and to quell the anger of my parents (who basically though i was overdoing the sports and competitions thing at that time). Then, on a whim, I signed up for the u-19 hat, won the gold with my team, and the rest was history. Winning is a really good way to cultivate interest HAHAHAHHAHA after that I went for many teams' trainings and gathered quite abit of experience here and there. I met an amazing amount of people through ultimate and I have to say, making friends through sports is the easiest way there is. The youth u-18 ultimate open was my most recent competition. I've come to realize how far my team has come from the mess we were at the indoor tournament back in April. We've improved so much, albeit not being able to place this time around either. Being a team without a coach, functioning solely on the commitment of each and every member of the team, coming so far like this, makes me really proud of everyone. I really love my team, despite all the bickering and drama that we had over the past year. On a personal level, I've never expected ultimate to mean so much to me. It has become something I want to improve myself in constantly. From being a medium to escape the tension and unhappiness in my group of friends, to somewhat a passion. I think that's a positive change of mindset. :p In the end, I have to thank my team for their constant and undying support ( though they continuously bully the crap out of me), everyone else who's given me instruction and advice on how to improve my game, all the teams that have opened their doors and allowed me to attend their trainings and everyone who I have played with before. Thank you, for helping me to achieve something so incredibly amazing. |
